Apra d'or

The book series Arpa d’or (Italian for Golden Harp) was launched in 2022 by the Club Giuliano Dalmato di Toronto. The series takes its name and draws its inspiration from the verses sung by the chorus of the Hebrew slaves in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Nabucco:

Golden Harp of our prophetic poets,
Why so silent you hang from the willow?
Reawaken the memories in our hearts,
Speak to us of a time that once was!

Arpa d’or thus seeks to remember and tell the personal stories of diasporic people whose lives were dramatically changed by History, whether through war, exile, deportation, emigration, or persecution.
Its primary focus is thus on diasporic people, especially those with roots in the north-eastern Adriatic (Venezia Giulia, Istria, Fiume, the Kvarner, and Dalmatia), which are the lands of origin of our Club members, but it is also open to, and gives a voice to other diasporic populations in the belief that all these personal stories of emigrants/immigrants should be told, preserved, and passed, as a legacy, to future generations.
